Thanks for putting up with another newbie question.
I recently installed 7.1 and all update RPMs (from RedHat update disk, thru
6/6/01). Kernel 2.4.2-2 I think. Everything seems to be running fine and
I'm learning all I can (1 week now). Installed on a laptop, connected to a
14.4 external modem/serial port. I'm obviously not looking for high-speed
access. Just want a basic connection at this point.
The problem is this. When I connect using my other Windows 98 box, my ISP
requires a "post-dial terminal," at which it prompts for username and
password. I then hit F7 and the connection is complete. There is no way
around this (on Windows), as I've been told.
The question is this. How do I make my Linux system interact with my ISP
with a "post-dial terminal" situation. I've configured KPPP to dial with
username, password, dns#s, etc. and it does (handshake). Then it sits for a
few minutes. I assume this is where the post-dial prompt would be. Then,
since I can't enter anything, it quits and redials. So, the modem is
working fine, but I need a "post-dial" interface.
Short version of the question: "How do I configure Linux/Kppp to interface
with an ISP that requires "post-dial terminal?".
Of course the ISP has no idea what to do.
Thanks in advance for any help. Also, I have no experience changing files
via command line, so detailed explanations would be appreciated. Yes, I'm
very new.
