In /etc/lilo.conf, remove the keyword "linear", insert "lba32", and
don't forget to run /sbin/lilo again to update the MBR.
This should work if you have a newer motherboard.
On older motherboards that don't support lba32, the partition
containing the /boot directory must end before cylinder 1024 of the
one of the first two hard disks. Use Partition Magic or similar to
squeeze your hda1 below 1024 so there is room for a /boot partition.
