My server's MRTG stats show an odd spike in bandwidth usage. The 5-minute
average graph shows a momentary spike up to 866.7kbps from the computer to
the world (somehow known as "in" on the graph) and 710.4kpbs ("out"). Over 5
minutes that computes to about 65MB in and 55MB or so out. All in 5 minutes.

I can't figure out what could have caused that. I have looked at many files
in /var/log and there's nothing suspicious around that time, including
/var/log/messages and /var/log/maillog. I have no large files downloadable
by Web.

Does scp keep track of file transfers anywere? I do have one user, but
there's nothing anywhere near that size in his directories.

It's not life or death (probably! :-) ) but I sure would like to know what
happened, and how to hunt it down, for knowledge sake if nothing else.

Thanks
