Unfortunately I am not using XDMCP.  I am logging in to my RedHat box on
the console under X11, then telneting to a remote box and trying to
display a client on my machine.

This was exactly my problem.  ``/etc/init.d/ipchains status'' output
included the following:
    Chain input (policy ACCEPT):
    target  prot opt     source          destination      ports
    REJECT  tcp  -y----  0.0.0.0/0       0.0.0.0/0        * ->   6000:6009
I commented out the relevant line from /etc/sysconfig/ipchains and
reload the firewall rules with ``/etc/init.d/ipchains restart''.
Incomings X11 connections now work.
