OT: Hardware

If I have a PIII 750 system from Gateway and want to just upgrade the CPU to
say, 1Ghz or thereabouts, can I just get the CPU and install it?  I guess
the better question would be, since it's already a PIII and going up to 1Ghz
or better PIII, would my current setup (fan, power, etc.) work as is?
