That's what LDAP is for.
An it works with many different mail tools, not just Exchange/Outlook.
Will Netscape/Mozilla connect to a Exchange address book?
what about Evolution, emacs, kmail, or pine?
All of these can support LDAP, it's a simple, open API.

And I can query the LDAP stores fron the command line,
in scripts, or throug a browser. Can Exchange give me
all of that? On Solaris, linux, BSD, HP-UX, and Windows?

I'd rather NOT have the tight integration of M$.
Give me several tools that do their job well,
not one tool that tries to do a lot.
That's the unix philosophy.

It also gives me the choice of the tool that best
fits my needs.
