Nice
email. My email client automatically responds in whatever the
original was.
Technically dd is a great way to do it. More specifically you would
want to pipe dd to bzip2 or something like that. Anything else is likely
to not truly be a image, but rather just a backup. If that is what you
want, then use tar and bzip2. If you want to image to be as small as
possible, try finding a utility (or writing one) that will zero out the unused
space (ie cat /dev/zero > /dummyfile; rm /dummyfile) so that the empty space
will compress as much as possible.

Subject: Re: Drive imagingEr, that's a non-sequiter."dd" is the only way tocreate a disk image. Suchfiles are likely to be muchlarger than a CDROM, evenif you only create a singlepartition image.Maybe you should ask thecorrect question. What isit you want to accomplish.Oh, I'll stop posting thissilly way if you stop usingHTML email.{^_^}----- Original Message -----From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>Sent: Tuesday, July 31, 2001 15:32 PMSubject: Re: Drive imagingI have not installed my cdr-w yet into linux would it be better to do it from windows or redhat
