There is a patch that compaq supplies for the kernel to support Compaq scsi
arrays. You can find in in the support section of the compaq web site.

Sounds quite similar, but we were able to install just fine. We had a
glitch
with an IDE drive attached, but I think that was our error.
The install went as expected, but wouldn't boot. We tried the boot floppy
and
that worked.(??) That's when we checked /proc/cpu and found that the boot
floppy was booting the linux-up kernel. When we booted to the SCSI array
and
selected linux-up, it came up just fine.
Our boot process (w/ the SMP kernel) hangs at just the same time yours does.
Very odd, considering that the kernel was read from the SCSI array just
fine...
I do contract work for this client and I'm not on-site today, so I can't
work
any more on it. If you find out anything more, I'd appreciate your passing
that along to me! I do have someone there who is capable to building a new
kernel, and he might have time to do that today. If that helps, I'll let
you
know.

No, my friend, the way to have good and safe government, is not to trust it
all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one
exactly
the functions he is competent to. It is by dividing and subdividing these
republics from the national one down through all its subordinations, until
it
ends in the administration of every man's farm by himself; by placing under
every one what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the
best.
