dd will do the trick. Write chunks of about 650 or 700 MB depending on
CD-R type (you'll have to check out the mkisofs growth!) and burn them.
That'll eeven provide all the partitions there without using fdisk or
whatver tool. use command like dd if=/dev/hda ... to write even MAR and
partition table onto the CDs. But be careful not to include swap space
and the partition you're creating the backup files on. You want to do
this in single user mode so no one can write onto the disk. For more
information type
man dd
This isn't the simplest solution, but it'll work. I used it to backup a
dual boot Linux/WinNT (NTFS) disk to anoher disk (which has to be at
least the same size as the original). Kinda hand-made software RAID...
