Have you done a 'make mrproper' prior? This fixed my problem with new
source code. Make sure you backup your .config file as it gets deleted
with the make mrproper command.

Subject: make modules fails

I am trying to build an SMP kernel using kernel-source-2.4.3-12 but
the build fails every time I try to do a make modules. There is a
buttload of warnings but it looks like the error is in loop.c or one
of the included files. I think I have all the updates and 2.4.3-12 is
the latest kernel RPM I can find for 7.1 on Redhat's site.

loop.c: In function `loop_change_fd':
loop.c:690: warning: implicit declaration of function
`kernel_thread_Rsmp_7e9ebb05'
make[2]: *** [loop.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.3/drivers/block'
make[1]: *** [_modsubdir_block] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.3/drivers'
make: *** [_mod_drivers] Error 2
