Hi there,
I have installed RH 7.1 on my laptop and now the network performance is truly slow
(NFS at
23kBytes/sec, unreliable ssh connections, slow remote X11, etc.). The kernel is
2.4.3-12. If I
reboot under RH-6.2 (still sitting in another partition) everything is just fine.
The laptop is an HP Omnibook 4150 and the network PCMCIA card a Xircom CreditCard
Ethernet 10/100 +
Modem 56 (CEM56).
If I try to ping another host (e.g., my gateway), a lot of the packets are corrupted,
specially if
the packet size is rather large (10000). My packet loss is around 40%. Here is a
sample run:
# ping -f -s 10000 128.178.121.1
PING 128.178.121.1 (128.178.121.1) from 128.178.121.34 : 10000(10028) bytes of data.
.CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC.
--- 128.178.121.1 ping statistics ---
159 packets transmitted, 92 packets received, +65 corrupted, 42% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/mdev = 5.056/5.945/14.708/5.479 ms
ifconfig does not report any errors nor collitions. A sample run (just after the ping
test above)
gives:
# ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:10:A4:04:5D:25
inet addr:128.178.121.34 Bcast:128.178.121.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:17400 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:11242 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:95
collisions:0 txqueuelen:100
Interrupt:11 Base address:0x300
I have tried with the rawhide kernels and the pcmcia-cs drivers (instead of kernel
ones) but I have
had no success this far. Any idea what could be going wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Diego
