The extra rules could come from the installation, or from running
/usr/sbin/setup and choosing Firewall Configuration
/usr/sbin/lokkit
/usr/bin/firewall-config
/sbin/ipchains-save
Connecting with ppp or pppoe adds rules to let you do
dns lookups even with the maximum firewall.
