OK, I have set it up to use ETAP, which is what HP's web site indicates
is the correct protocol. I have added paride_protocol to modules.conf
and re-run depmod -a, and trying to load or use pt does not work. I can
also manually load etap module
as protocol 0 and try to load pt without any success... Here is a little more
that I found which may be of significance... I only have the tape drive on the
parallel port, but when the system boots, here is the message I get
concerning the parallel devices:

parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [PCSPP]
parport0: cpp_mux: aa55f00f52ad51(07)
parport0: Found 4 daisy-chained devices
lp0: using parport0 (polling).
ppdev: user-space parallel port driver

--- I think these were after I starting trying to load the modules....---
ppdev0: claim the port first
lp0 off-line
paride: version 1.06 installed (parport)
pt: pt version 1.04, major 96
pt0: Autoprobe failed
pt: No ATAPI tape drive detected

Sep 26 15:47:50 www insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.3-12/kernel/drivers
/block/paride/pt.o: init_module: Operation not permitted
Sep 26 15:47:50 www insmod: Hint: insmod errors can be caused
by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
Sep 26 15:47:50 www insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.3-12/kernel/drivers
/block/paride/pt.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.3-12/kernel/drivers/block
/paride/pt.o failed

Any ideas what 4 daisy chained devices it found? As I said above,
the only device is the tape drive, so it should not find a printer to use
as lp0... Do I need to disable the lp device somehow? Does Parallel Port
require a terminator like SCSI (I never needed one with Win 95)?

Thanks again
Bryan
