Jochen, This may be far more information than you need, but if you are serious about setting up a firewall then you need the "bible" on port numbers (and just about every other type of Internet number you can think of). That is IETF Request for Comment (RFC) 1700, also known as IETF Standard 2. You can find this at http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1700.txt?number=1700.
For the record, Standard 2 was one of the many reference documents Jon Postel created and periodically updated for us. Jon published the last update in 1994. It was getting quite out-of-date and was probably quite high on his "to-do" list when he died suddenly in the fall of 1998 (see http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2468.txt?number=2468). Jon *WAS* the Internet Assigned Number Authority (IANA), and no one has ever replaced him. --Doc Savage Fairview Heights, IL On October 1, Jochen Kchelin wrote: > Can anybody give me a link to a listing > of all ports with description what > they are used for. > > I wan't to learn more about setting up a > firwall etc. --------------------------------------------- This message was sent from Peaknet, Inc. http://www.peaknet.net/ _______________________________________________ Seawolf-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/seawolf-list
