This may be far more information than you need, but if you are serious about
setting up a firewall then you need the "bible" on port numbers (and just about
every other type of Internet number you can think of). That is IETF Request for
Comment (RFC) 1700, also known as IETF Standard 2. You can find this at
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1700.txt?number=1700.

For the record, Standard 2 was one of the many reference documents Jon Postel
created and periodically updated for us. Jon published the last update in 1994.
 It was getting quite out-of-date and was probably quite high on his "to-do"
list when he died suddenly in the fall of 1998 (see
http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc2468.txt?number=2468). Jon *WAS* the Internet
Assigned Number Authority (IANA), and no one has ever replaced him.
