disclaimer ---
I hope this comes across in plaintext. If it is HTML
please forgive me - I hate it - you hate it but this
is the only way I could get this message out this
morning.

I am having a problem booting after updating my
kernel. I used the up2date program via redhat
network. I can successfully boot using the "backup"
copy it made but I am having no luck with the updated
kernel.

What really has me confused is the "2105" line. I
have no idea where that came from. After reading
other posts it sounds like this might be a memory
location.  Is that right.

Here is the error message(s):
vfs:cannot open root device "2105" or 21:05
please append a correct "root=" boot option
kernel panic: VFS: unable to mount root fs on 21:05

Here is my LILO.conf file:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
linear
default=linux.bak

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2
        label=linux.bak
        read-only
        root=/dev/hde5
        append="hdh=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi"

other=/dev/hda1
        optional
        label=dos

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.3-12
        label=linux
        read-only
        root=/dev/hde5
        append="hdh=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi"

I have no images to load via a initrd= line.
Hardware is old & generic but runs everything else
fine. I have about 200 meg ram.
Let me know if you need anything else.

thanks for your time,
Michael
