Let me start by stating my goal. Under RH7.1, Scsi tape drives are not being recognized. I have IDE hard drives, but using SCSI dat drives for backup. I am using Microlite's Backupedge. Under RH 6.x, I did not have a problem with this hardware setup. I have tried a couple of differenct Scsi controllers with the same results.
So the light bulb comes on, that maybe I could re-compile the kernal with the scsi tape support already loaded to fix this problem. I ran 'make menuconfig' and selected Scsi tape support as a *(as opposed to M for module loadable) and compiled the kernal. I copied the new kernal to /boot and edited lilo.conf and ran lilo. lilo exists with an error message about Kernal does not support initial RAM disk. Ok, what did I do wrong?
