OK - clearer understanding of what you are asking but there are a lot of
elements to it.

Perhaps the most compreshensive thing I have ever seen (and some of this
is overkill) is David Ranch's Trinity OS

- this is the 'current' version which is probably what you want to look
at with RedHat 7.1 & ipchains.

You need to check out his firewall rulesets (I think it is chapter 10.7)
because each time you ip connection goes up and down, a series of
scripts will have to run to set /etc/resolv.conf which as you can see,
automatically happens anyway.

I think it would probably just be easier to forget serving dns and just
use a distributed lists of hosts/lmhosts files on the local lan and have
dns simply point out to the internet connection dns server - forget
about forwarders, etc.
