That's not what should be done.

Red Hat's kernels are patched, enhanced, QAed, etc. You don't want to
compile your own kernel unless you want to do kernel develeopment
yourself.

Run "up2date" - update "up2date" first, then run it again and select
the kernel for an upgrade (and also install all other issued updates).
