Hi,

I still got this NIS problem, and this night it happened that something
died again (I'm no longer sure if the ypserv really is the problem
here).
I set up all my maschines (except for the NIS master of course) as YP
slave servers to workaround these NIS problems. I also had the ypserv
started by hand in one shell on the NIS master with -d flag to see what
happens. When I came into my office this morning I had problems logging
into the NIS server. Everything seemed to hang for some minutes. The
shell where the ypserv -d was running looked dead. Something has
happened
yesterday in the late evening, and I had an email from one of the linux
users who reported that he was not able to log in (even though a NIS
slave
server was actually running on the machine he wanted to log into). I see
the following logs in the /var/log/messages on the NIS server (tiger is
the
NIS server here):

Feb 12 19:37:35 tiger ypbind[11523]: broadcast: RPC: Timed out.

When I rebooted the NIS server it had problems even with shutting down
and
there were messages about portmap not responding.

Maybe the problem here is not the ypserver but the portmapper ??

I must admit I'm a little bit confused as I do not really understand
what's going on. Has someone an idea of what I could do to get my
hands on the real problem?
