Hello all, I will be installing RedHat and Win XP on the same hard drive on a laptop. I was wondering if you could give me some good advice before I start.
Here are the specs for the laptop: Dell Inspiron 8100 1.2 GHz PIII 24x CD-ROM Floppy 10/100 internal ethernet network card and modem 30 GB HD 256 MB RAM Nvidia Graphic Card that needs a Linux driver from the nvidia website. Here is what I'm going to do: 1. Partition drive (Probaby with Fdisk or with the XP installation disk) 2. Install XP on first partition 3. Install Linux on second partition with the following partitions: swap 512 var 512Mb home 1G usr the space that's left. 4. Download nvidia driver and install in Linux I know I can make a boot disk to start Linux, but i would like to have the user choose if he wants to boot to Linux or Win XP when the computer is started. Does this require installation of Lilo? Is it possible that it will mess up the boot information for XP? I remember once I copied the vmlinuz file to a Win98 partition and I made a little dos startup utility that let you choose which OS you wanted to startup from. If the choice was linux then the vmlinuz file was executed. Can I do something similar with Win XP? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
