I would like to upgrade XFree86 on my RH7.1 box from the stock 4.0.3-5
to 4.1.0-25. Just to be paranoid, I built a test box with a new
install, and upgraded it as necessary so I could upgrade X on
it. Everything was working just fine before I started the various
upgrades.

The upgrade of X went fine. However, when I fired up startx, Gnome's
default font was missing. All I got was a bunch of little empty
squares instead of letters. Judging by the font selector in the Gnome
Control Center, a lot of fonts are broken.

Do I need anything else? Is there a step I missed in upgrading
Xfree86?

I notice that while XFree86 and the libs, fonts, etc. are at 4.1.0 on
the server, the drivers appear to be still at 3.3.6. Is this correct?

This is what I have installed:

XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.1.0-25
XFree86-4.1.0-25
XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.1.0-25
XFree86-devel-4.1.0-25
XFree86-libs-4.1.0-25
XFree86-SVGA-3.3.6-35
XFree86-tools-4.1.0-25
XFree86-twm-4.1.0-25
XFree86-xdm-4.1.0-25
XFree86-xfs-4.1.0-25

The kernel is 2.4.9-34.
