    It may be that Win XP installation will ask you for permission to
write to the MBR, in which case you should say "no".  I've never installed
it; so I don't know.  If it does write to where lilo has put boot
information, your machine will thereafter boot only to Win XP, unless you
use some other source of boot information.

    Even if Win XP writes to the MBR, you will still be able to use your
boot floppy, made during RedHat installation, to boot into linux.  From
linux you can either rerun lilo, to restore ability to boot into linux,
or you can change to grub.  If you don't have a boot floppy, make one
before you install Win XP and try using it.

    Find out more about GRUB with the info mechanism ("info grub").
In particular, the grub-install command seems to be what you need.
But I don't expect installing GRUB will protect you against Win XP
installation temporarily hijacking the boot process.
