I need help connecting my linux box to my cable network. I picked up a used dell that has a ethernet card built onto the motherboard. I think Linux detects that it is a 3com network device. When I go to the Network configuration, Under hardware linux shows "3com 3c590/3c595/3c90x/3cx98" for eth1.
I checked the compatability listings @ redhat.com and it's supposed to be compatible. I tried to change it to eth0 and got the following error message, "The ethernet card could not be initialized. Please verify your settings. When I installed linux 7.2 recently and after booting the only thing that "Failed" was eth0. I had win98 installed before installing linux it worked ok. I also set up dhcp during the linux install. I am a new user to linux and would appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
