Or, you used WordPad, MSWord or some such program to do the
modifications and it munged the file in a way that you can't see from a
Windows platform, but drives bash nutz.
A good rule of thumb is to use unix tools to modify unix files. You
can't trust many Windows programs not to "play" with the files. Editpad
is one you can trust, however. (IMHO.)

You probably left an unfinished quote (' or ") somewhere. Look through
the file to make sure that you have matching quotes.
