I prefer GNOME as well, I ran it on my 6.2 install, but when I went to 
7.2 it wouldn't work correctly. Especially the screensaver. I could not 
lock the desktop, so I begrudgingly switched to KDE.

What's the latest version of GNOME, maybe that was my problem from before.
