are you using encrypted passwords>?
if u are using win 98/NT or newer cliente try the following....
add
encrypt passwords = yes
to smb conf and restart samba /etc/init.d/smb restart
and run on a root shell...
smbpasswd -a username
where username is the windows login for a windows client with his
respective passwd and try again
