Jennifer,

I like Britt's idea--very real-world practical.  And very
relevant to what's occurring.  Something more technical
may be along the lines of a kernel IDS module.
Something that detects intrusion based on a pattern of
system, C library or network library calls being executed
on the cpu(s)???  Or maybe you can move that a little higher
to a C library instead of a kernel module?  Or maybe a
kernel module that logs system and or library calls(instead
of a process--truss/strace)?
