Depending on how your network is designed some people implement single sign on (SSO) through Radius, Tacacs +, Kerberos, setting up PKI, etc. The good thing about having all your passwords in a centralized placed is that it is very scalable for larger networks and it is only one machine to protect against attack. Also most of these standards are open so you can easily review the relevant RFC's to get familiar with them.
