In response to the recent squirrelmail discussion, SquirrelMail, which I once used heavily, is only as secure as the protocols over which it's running. I would recommend using a HTTPS server, and having the IMAP server on the same machine.
IMAP is only an "insecure" protocol as much as POP or HTTP. For webmail, IMAP is by far the best way to go, unless you want to restrict yourself to having the mailserver local and setting up a direct Maildir interface or stored the mail in a database, which would probably be substantially faster. IMAP has native support for multiple folders, message statuses, and so forth. You can have your webmail match your mail in Outlook or Kmail, since it's all server-stored with IMAP. Now, with that said, IMAP is *not* a secure protocol, but IMAPS is :). Most IMAP-supporting mail clients also support IMAPS. I'm not sure whether Squirrelmail has IMAPS support offhand. -- Casey Allen Shobe [EMAIL PROTECTED] GCS/CM d+ s+:->+: a-- C++(++++) ULU++++$ P- L+++>++++ E- W++ N++ !o K- w-- !O M V- PS++ PE Y+ PGP>++ t+ 5+ X R>+ tv-- b++ DI+ D---- G++ e h-(*) r--- z--
