I use Smoothwall for my home network, which consists of a cable modem, the firewall/router box (simply an old P133 with 32MB ram, cdrom drive, and a 420 mb hd and 2 nics)a switch, a hub and 6 computers behind it. Takes only about 10 minutes to set up, it is a fully prehardened linux 2.4.x kernel, has been up and running for over a month now with no reboots, no problems, has a super web based management interface, and is free. You can make a donation if you are happy with the product however it is not neccessary. You can get it at www.smoothwall.org Lahoma

Hi all, Just thought I would suggest a firewall that I just got done setting up. It's from http://www.astaro.com . I'm sure some of you have seen it. It's one of the best I've got seen. You Download the ISO, burn it to a CD, pop the CD in an empty PC and 10 minutes and a few IP addresses later you're setting it up via the web interface. I've got it running in my house with SMTP proxy and a server that is now running 10.x.x.x addresses only and still hosting web pages using Port Forwarding NAT. I'm very impressed with it so far. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks. Benjamin VH CCNA, CCDA, MSCE, Watch Guard Cert, --- Incoming mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
