I have question regarding a "security setting". Part of "securing" an NT/2000 box it's recommended to restrict access to the floppy drive and cd-rom to the interactive user only. This is great however I have seen problems with this and was wondering if anyone else has.
Once I completed the regedit and rebooted I was unable to load certain software from the cd-rom. Specifically MS products. I tried to install Powerpoint and Visio on a machine and was unable to because it said the software was not in the location. I'm assuming that it's because the software is being loaded as another user (probably localsystem) and the cd-rom has been restricted to the logged in user...this case Administrator. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a work around besides 'unsecuring' your box, loading software, then re-securing the box? Thanks for the input.
