Hi:
I guess you can unpack in your home directory. If you do not want to run 
./chkrootkit from within the system, you can copy it to a floppy and run it 
from /mnt/floppy. 
I used it a few days ago on my machine, and it found something which I 
haven't had the time to investigate further.
