If you are able to add a Unix based box, you can use a MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) to move e-mails from one host (your SMTP server on the Unix based box) to another (your SMTP server on Windows NT box). In this case, just prefer Postfix (http://www.postfix.org) to sendmail for security reasons. See also the article http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=4241 that will certainly give you some ideas.
I hope it can help.
