Locking the workstation is, in my opinion, a good practice if you are security (and
privacy) minded. As a consultant, we are asked to lock our workstation everytime we
step away from out laptops, whether at a client site or not. I realize that in many
corporate environments this would be considered an unnecessary hassle, but I think the
security and privacy benefit this provides is worth the extra 2 seconds to lock the
workstation and extra 5 seconds to unlock it later.
And if you believe the statement at the bottom of Mr. Dyson's email:
"No enemy can attack more viciously than a friend", then this is another good reason
to consider this practice.

What I don't get is why your user needs to download e-mail via POP
when the user isn't even there to read it. Seems like a waste of
company resources.
Were I you, I'd tell my user to stop wasting his admin's time and
the company's money on unneeded energy consumption and just download his
mail when he comes in at the start of each business day.
Seems harsh at first blush, but it is not only a much more secure
solution, it's also far more cost-effective.
