just find an old junker system and use the linux router project, this will
give you a cheap solution to your problem and give you a little more
flexibility and security.

Why would want to use Windows 98 as a gateway?  Most people use their
Linux machines as the gateway since it's more secure and has the
functionality built in.

On the other hand, Windows does have the capability to do connection
sharing.
