Andrew,
Other than having 2+ interfaces and their associated "hostname.??#" files, you can enable multiple IP addresses on a Solaris box as follows.. Create the primary IP address by creating the "hostname.??#" file (where ?? and # represent the interface name and number respectively) Create the secondary IP addresses by creating a "hostname.??#:N" (where the N represents the virtual IP address number (not IP). Reboot the system. During boot up, the system will see the files and configure the interfaces appropriately. Note that the hostname.??# and hostname.??#N files are located in the /etc directory and contain either the IP address or hostname of the interface. If you are using a hostname, put a reference to it in the /etc/hosts file so that the system can resolve it during boot time. Hope this helps.... Hi, Is it possible to give a Solaris UNIX Box 2 IP Addresses? The reason for this question is that I have some software that will gather data from 1 port on 1 IP address only. (The IP Address is used as the Identifier) But I need it to gather Info from 2 ports... Therefore, If I give the box 2 IP addresses, each one can be used to gather data from the alternate ports. -----Original Message----- From: Sherrie E.
