Subject: App to send abnormal Ethernet/IP packets

My company has a COTS (Commercial Off-the-shelf) product that can send
malformed Ethernet packets and this was causing a production router to lock
up. Is there any such software that can run either on Linux (preferable) or
on
a Windows platform that can do this? We don't want hackers to be able to
lock
up our router by this method and I want to check how readily available any
such software might be.

Can anyone recommend an application to run on Linux that will send
customized Ethernet and IP packets? I need to be able to test a system and I
want to be able to send abnormal Ethernet and IP packets to ensure our
router
and server are able to handle any type of attacks. Prefereably an
application
to run on Linux would be best but I could also run this from a Windows 2000
machine.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

AH
