I noticed your shorewall only had the FTP control port open. You may want to also open up the FTP data port (ftp-data). What is possibly happening is that the browsers are using passive FTP (which only uses the ftp port) while the FTP clients are using active FTP mode (which needs both the ftp and ftp-data ports to be open). Try adding this rule: ACCEPT lan wan tcp ftp-data Good luck! -Justin Grote
