Thanks - I was reading about this when I got your post. I tried it, and it did login, but when I tried to change the password, I got an error form PAM: PAM_pwdb[19]: user (root/0) update failed; pwdb: another process has locked resource. passwd: Critical error - immediate abort. There was very little running, and I rebooted the firewall from the web interface so it should have shutdown nicely. I'm searching for this error now. Phil
