Ricardo,

I've been running one on a P3 233 with 256MB RAM... I would imagine 64
would be fine for a home network.

Also, since there is no GUI, you needn't worry. :)

I would say give it a shot and see what happens. :)

Subject: [Security Firewall] new home-network setup - hints requested

Hi,

Ive tried MNF before but for the time I considered using just shorewall for
my home network.

Its been great and, thats the point to consider now.

Currently I have 1 PII-400 w/ 512 Ram and 2 hd, cd-rw and cd-player with
Mdk9.2 as a firewall and mail server. ADSL dhcp connection.

The intended config is as follow:

I have 1 old machine Pentium 266 w/ 64 ram and 2 hd and cd-player (all of
them
have also floppy)

I would like to use this machine for my future firewall only (I can see no
other use for it!). Too big for paper-weight ;-)

So, is it possible to install MNF on such machine?
(no GUI required! CLI would be fine!)

Ive heard about distributions based on boot-from-CD method, but I would
like
to stick with mdk and shorewall.

I intend to move the mail server (and everything else to the and athlon (?)
1.6 and leave the PII-400 for my daughter (windows user, yet!)

Any hint on that 'poor old machine?
