Sr. Mgmt Systems Programmer

Duties 
This is a senior position within our Managed Security Services development 
team. The position is to be a product expert in all supported security 
devices. The primary focus of this position is to be absolutely familiar 
with industry-leading firewalls, and network/host intrusion detection 
systems. Examples of supported products: Symantec Enterprise Firewall 
(Raptor), Check Point FW-1, Cisco PIX, Snort, Dragon, and ManHunt. Work 
will involve setting up and testing security products to learn and gather 
information. Environment is a high-energy, fast moving environment with 
rapid development cycles. Responsibilities in order of priority: 1. 
Product Expert in all supported Firewalls and Network/Host Intrusion 
Detection Systems. Knows how to install products, obtain and use licenses, 
setup hardware, and contact vendors for all of our supported products. 
Knows how to tweak products to extract all possible information. Role 
requires strong communication skills, creating informational presentations 
for other groups within the division, and produce documentation for 
distribution. 2. Product Expert with focus on signatures. The emphasis is 
to evaluate quality of each product in terms of security value. Assessing 
the depth and breadth of each IDS signature or firewall filter capability 
is a key responsibility. In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, networking, 
exploits, and current hot vulnerabilities is important. Setting up and 
configuring the lab environment to attack test devices to gather real data 
is a key requirement. 3. Security consultant for development of new 
features to the Symantec Managed Security Service. In depth knowledge in 
security policies, exploits, and vulnerabilities will be used to make 
recommendation to new features for the SMSS. In addition, position will be 
responsible for locking down various firewalls in the development 
infrastructure. 4. Provide advanced level 3 technical support to various 
groups within the organization including Sales, Operations, Analysis, and 
Product Management.  

Requirements 
BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. 1. Minimum 
of 3 years experience as system/network administrator in both Windows & 
UNIX environments, with hands on experience defining and maintaining 
baselines. (Strong UNIX skills required) 2. Minimum of 2 years Hands-on 
experience designing and implementing technical security solutions, 
including firewalls, virtual private networks and intrusion detection 
systems 3. In-Depth knowledge of TCP/IP and other networking protocols 4. 
Production environment experience using vulnerability assessment tools 
(e.g. Nessus, NMAP) 5. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
Proven technical writing experience 6. Detail-Oriented, proven attention 
to detail in past projects 7. Self-motivated, ability to see tasks through 
to completion and produce deliverables 8. Ability to quickly learn and 
adapt to new situations. Desired, but not required: 9. Programming skills 
in Perl 10. Programming skills in C/C++ 11. Microsoft SQL Server 
experience
