We've figured out what the problem is. Since Sedna 3.2 default linux
binaries are dynamically linked with system libraries. It requires glibc 2.7
and glibcxx 3.4.9 or higher. RHEL 4 has the following versions:

> *strings /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 | grep GLIBCXX*
...
GLIBCXX_3.4.3
> *strings /lib/libc.so.6 | grep GLIBC*
...
GLIBC_2.3.4

Fortunately, we still provide static build which you can find here:
http://modis.ispras.ru/FTPContent/sedna/current/ . It should work fine.

I think, that we will improve diagnostic of this situation! Thank you for
your report.


 By the way, is there a "proper" way to de-install sedna (i.e. a previous
> version such as sedna-3.1.10)?

It's enough to deinstall Sedna.
