Hello Everyone. My name is Thomas Morrow but I go by Tomy
(yes, I spell it with one M not two), and I thought I would introduce
myself so you can get to know me. I'm 23, married and have been for
1 1/2 years, my wife Lisa and I have a 1 yr old son, Thomas James
Jr. I have 3 brothers Shawn my half-brother is 29, Mike my younger
brother is 21, and Adam my foster brother is the youngest at 1 year
old. I also have 2 sisters the oldest Janie who is 16 was adopted 7
years ago and my youngest sister Emily who was adopted 11/15/05 is 4
years old and is Adam's biological sister. We have had Emily and
Adam since they were almost a week old each.
We just bought our house shortly after getting married; it is a
split-level on less than a quarter of an acre and is in town
(Vermilion, Ohio). I wanted to live in the country where I would be
able to keep my chickens and ducks close by. We are currently
looking at a nice house in the country that is located on 6.15 acres,
with a corral for horses with a "barn", really a 3-sided lean-to with
a roof. I have always loved living in the country and always will
want someplace with acres.
I have about 30 chickens and this past week a hen that hatched
out this past spring from an incubator hatched 14 chicks. I also have
4 ducks, 3 parakeets, a Box Turtle, 2 Hamsters + 8 babies, also born
this week, 8 goldfish, 3 cats (Smokey, LaWong, and Oreo), and 3
Dogs. Cinnamon a 9yr old Corgi we found, Bailey a 2yr old Beagle mix
we adopted, and Sage a 6 month boxer mix we found.
I haven't done much gardening, even though growing up I had to
weed my mom's garden. But now with my own family I have realized
what a blessing it was to grow your own food, what with having to pay
for it now. ;-) I tried to do a small vegetable garden this past
year, but planted too close to Hostas which lined the eastern side of
our house. Needless to say when the Hostas grew they chocked out my
garden. The only things that did grow this year were a Cherry Tomato
plant (for my Turtle, I hate tomatoes), a sugar Baby Watermelon
(about the size of a baseball), and a Leaf lettuce plant (also for my
turtle).
I've been interested in herbs for the past year or so and have
been reading every book I can get my hands on. I have been reading
up on the medical aspect of herbs as well as herbal crafts. I plan
to start a small garden, and an Herbal Garden this next spring with
as much of my small yard I can spare. I am also looking for flowers
to plant around my house. I haven't bought any yet, but think I know
what I want to do. I plan to do all organic if possible. I've been
looking around for reasonable prices on organic seeds, and the best
prices I've found are at Pinetree Garden Seeds (www.superseeds.com),
but don't know if they are all organic.
If you have any questions for me, any extra herb seeds, or have
any suggestions on which herbs would work best in a small 12 by 4
garden. I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks for
listening.
