Today's post reminded me of some information I located on
the web some time ago.

According to:

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/5682/postscript.html

'A frequently asked question is, "How can I extract
the text from a PostScript document?" The answer is, it's not
easy. The best way is to go back to the program which
produced the PostScript document, and ask it for the plain
text. If you have no way to do that, you can try the following.

'PSTOTEXT extracts the ASCII text from a PostScript or
PDF document.'

Further instructions on the page explain how to use the
program. It requires Ghostscript, the freeware (or open source,
whatever it's called) alternative to Adobe Postscript.

This link should help you install Ghostscript:

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/aladdin/get601.html

I have installed Ghostscript myself (though I don't currently have
it), and as I recall it was relatively easy. I would be interested in
seeing whether this solution helps. Please e-mail me offlist if you
try it.

Thanks,

Ed
