Dear "Dave The Botanis"

Let me rephrase your Q in my "Peace's Anal-Retentive Direction Follower"
style, and tell me if I have the vaguest idea of what you need. :o)

You need:
A simple graphics program that can let you add text to a JPEG or GIF image.
Then you need to be able to take a screen capture (in some fashion, perhaps
with a 35 mm Camera or using the PRINT SCRN function) of that image with its
newly added text?

Now, Tell me what software you DO have at your disposal, please. And do you
HAVE to take the photograph of the screen with a camera as you would take a
pict or a person? Why does it have to be Presentation Software, I didn't see
you specify a reason for it's need.

Here's how I have done it in the past with NO expensive software:
1 - I right click on an image on a webpage and copy it to my computer as Name
.JPEG.

If you have free AOL software, you can click PRINT SCRN (next to Scroll Lock
key) and then open a new email and right click and choose PASTE, and the
image will be inserted into a blank email. I used this even when I didn't
have AOL. It works. I'd then send the image to myself as an embedded image
email. I'd then open the email, and right click again, and save the mailed
image to my computer, and I'd proceed with the following directions.

2 - Then I open it up with my cheap graphics software (I have PhotoSuite 80,
and Paint Shop Pro, both free) and make SURE its extension is in fact JPEG.
(.GIF and .BMP are too big, in my opinion).

3 - I then add text to the image and save it again with a NEW name such as
pictureWords.jpeg. That way you have an original and the altered one on file.
Before I proceed from here I close the modified image, and re-open it just
to make SURE the changes were actually saved. [I told you I was anal ...
err... thorough. I make a bad boss, but an EXCELLENT employee :o)]

4 - You can then proceed in any fashion imaginable. Save the image to a disk,
CD, print the image yourself, or take to a professional service/printer who
may have more professional software, and they can make slides, etc, prn.

Peace

RE: I come to you seeking sage advice. First here's what I want to do. I
want to take jpg and gifs from the web add text and photograph them with my
35mm camera and macro lenses. Ok I hear you saying "You're going to get
raster lines - you have to send them off to film recorder service. Well I
tried a number of images, sent them off at $4.95 each and they came back
blocky each and everyone. So next I just shot the screen during the dark of
night, backed off enough so as not to see raster lines - guess what it worked
- beautiful slides (I underexposed a couple
f-stops.

Ok now is there a program freeware etc or a technique I can use much like
Powerpoint (which I can't afford). I am aware of Staroffice however it is
quite memory intensive. Along this same line can Staroffice open Powerpoint
.ppt files
