http://www.timspec.co.nz/macrocarpa.html has a short description, but very
little about the mechanical properties of the wood. It is apparently scarce
and not commercially planted. The botanical name is Cupressus macrocarpa.
Macrocarpa means "large seed" and is a species identifier of several plants
icluding an oak, a palm and a Padauk, among others. There is some more info
at http://www.geocities.com/~earlecj/cu/cup/macrocarpa.htm and
http://www.nearctica.com/trees/conifer/cupress/Cmacro.htm . The tree is
apparently a native North American pine known commonly as Monterey Cypress.
As a conifer, it is botanically very different from either oak or Teak as
both are deciduous. Apparently the tree is almost extinct in the wild but
widely cultivated. It shows up in ancient fossil records and the only
occuring natural populations are near Monterey County in California. More
botanic info is at http://www.floridata.com/ref/c/cupr_mac.cfm . Forestry
