There are at least of couple of email "appliances" on the market at
$100-$200.  Each requires a connection with a charge of abour $10 a month.
But with 2x5" screens they would clearly be inappropiate.

I'd suggest looking at the Phillips-Magnavox WebTV, a set-top box
currently advertised (and widely available in retail outlets).

It uses the home tv for a screen, has a IR-coupled keyboard (allowing the
user to get as close as desired to the screen), costs about $200, and has
a monthly connect fee of $10.


Who knows?  Grandma might even hit the wrong key, and find herself
surfing the Web!
