Begin with this tutorial for a good introduction to MS-DOS:

http://www.cit.ac.nz/smac/os100/msdos01.htm

After reading all that site has to offer you, and assuming you are now
using either Windows-95 or Windows-98, then you would have MS-DOS
version 7.0 installed. You might also have the extra commands of the
older MS-DOS. If not, those can usually be found on your Windows
installation CD-ROM.

An excellent reference site for MS-DOS v. 7.0 is this site put together
by Bob Watson:

http://log.on.ca/users/rhwatson/dos7/index.html <--- framed
http://log.on.ca/users/rhwatson/dos7/commandintro.html <--no frames

This site was put together to mostly serve those of us that use Windows
95 and 98 and have reduced our dependency on DOS. For that reason we
often forget what we need to do in DOS when the need arises. This
handy reference site can refresh our memories.

Be sure and click onto Watson's "Links" link in the Index, because that
will give you an entire page of excellent references, tutorials,
guides, etc. for MS-DOS.
