I believe you're referring to the Esosoft company, which got bought out
rather suddenly by Topica. As I remember, this list was rather
adversely affected by it, as it was on Esosoft at the time of the
buyout. Alan had to move the list to it's current server because of
this.
Majordomo is a GPL freeware program, which is trademarked to a Brett
Chapman, Majordomo's creator. The nature of the GPL license makes it
impossible to "buy out" Majordomo.
