Re: about QAQC'ing magnetometers

Dear all,

At the moment I am supervising a ground magnetic survey in Scandinavia with
a base station (GEM) and two rovers (GEM and Geometrics).

Everytime I run such a survey, I test the instruments before and after the
survey, sometimes even during the survey.

How I do this is that I set up all magnetometers as base stations at the
base station site, and let them run for a full day, or as long as the
batteries last.

After the diurnal observation, I firstly compare the base station with the
nearest magnetic observatory, in this case Lycksele. This comparison is
only qualitatively, since the exploration site is about 400 km from the
observatory.

I then compare all rovers with the base station.

I would like to share with you these results: Before the survey, both
rovers were showing no difference with the base station. After the survey,
they are both showing a shift.

Have you observed something similar during your surveys?

Regards,
